Eliminates the need for expensive laboratory equipment for teaching bacteriology, and includes all necessary materials alleviating extensive lab preparation. Great for leading into discussions about water pollution or environmental contamination. May be used in a multitude of science applications. Kit includes instructor?s manual with background information, and enough materials for 24 students working individually, in pairs, or in groups. Includes 25 tubes for testing water for presence of Escherichia coli indicative of the presence of animal waste. Requires incubator (37C). Meets national standards for Grades 8-12.

OSMOSIS & DIFFUSION KIT https://centralscience.spiderns.com/product/osmosis-diffusion-kit/ https://centralscience.spiderns.com/product/osmosis-diffusion-kit/#respond Tue, 13 Oct 2026 16:57:21 +0000 http://centralscience.spiderns.com/product/osmosis-diffusion-kit/ Osmosis and diffusion are essential concepts in understanding how cells survive. The exchange between water and solutes is visually observed in this three part lab that takes no more than two class periods to complete. Students will utilize starch and glucose solutions with dialysis tubing to model the cell membrane and observe the processes of osmosis & diffusion. This laboratory activity is ideal for high school biology classes of all levels. Designed for 24 students working in six groups of four.
Grades 9-12

MECHANISMS OF HERBICIDES https://centralscience.spiderns.com/product/mechanisms-of-herbicides/ https://centralscience.spiderns.com/product/mechanisms-of-herbicides/#respond Tue, 13 Oct 2026 16:46:51 +0000 http://centralscience.spiderns.com/product/mechanisms-of-herbicides/ This exercise is designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of different categories of chemical herbicides. Students transplant grasses and weeds into flats or pots and investigate how and why different plants are killed by different chemical herbicides. A simultaneous microbiological proof with inoculated agar plates is run to reinforce the results, further categorize herbicides, and determine possible effects of the herbicides on soil microorganisms. Each group will choose two natural products and design a simple experiment to compare chemical vs. natural weed killers. A round table discussion including experimental designs, results, comparisons, and possible environmental impact culminates the exercise. Requires five class periods, plus research time. Required, but not included: heat source, flower pots or nursery flats, grass and weeds for transplanting. Designed for 24 students working in four groups of six. Grades 9-14
